Cults

I got Cults‘ first release on Forest Family Records. I liked it. I then saw them live, and have to admit I wasn’t too impressed. I do like their music though, and this new song, “Make Time”, is no exception. Here’s to hoping they grow as a band (they will) and their live show will grow with them (it probably already has). Calvin and Hobbes?

Not much going on, so I thought I’d share this comic from Pants are Overrated depicting Calvin as an adult. Not the greatest comic, but it’s fun to think about. Enjoy! (via Neatorama)

Click here for the full comic.

There’s a part 2 to the comic on the site’s main page. Let’s hope he keeps it going.

Bill Callahan

Bill Callahan, or Smog as he used (maybe still?) refer to himself, is at the same time both depressing and somewhat hopeful. He has to have a sense of humor if he’s able consistently churn out such sad sounding songs. This video for “Riding for the Feeling” is a great example of this strange line he straddles. The song is definitely not a happy one, but the video is very simple, soft, and scerene. (via Prefix)

James Blake

Who doesn’t want to hear a new James Blake song. Well, I guess technically it’s an old James Blake song that’s been reworked by Blake, but that’s besides the point. He’s a musical genius when it comes to dubstep, and while this new version of “Give a Man a Rod” isn’t quite as melodic as the stuff from his albums, it’s still worth a listen. (via Fader)

Two Wounded Birds

There will always be a soft spot with me for British pop/punk music. Not really sure why. There just will. I don’t need to explain myself to you. That’s not why I’m here. But you’re here to listen to me. And apparently you’re also here to watch this video from Brits Two Wounded Birds. It’s for their song “Midnight Wave”. (via Music Snobbery)

The Monster of Nix

This is awesome. At least it looks awesome. All one needs to really needs to know is that Tom Waits (and Terry Gilliam) are voices in it. It’s a Dutch 30 minute animated short called “The Monster of Nix“. Here’s a teaser. (via /Film)

When Saints Go Machine

When Saints Go Machine is a weird band name. They’re from Denmark though so that’s ok. They also make very dancey electro-pop music, as is evident in their song “Kelly”. I’ve been (and still am) obsessed with Wild Beasts, and this guy’s voice kind of has similar qualities. I can also hear some Bon Iver style harmonies. All wrapped into a synth-heavy dance song. Cool! A new Memory Tapes song! And we’re not calling them chillwave anymore I guess! But “Wait in the Dark” is still chill. Don’t let that fool you. Very chill. (via Pitchfork)

Jesse Ruins

I guess Jesse Ruins is from Tokyo? That’s about all I kind of maybe know about the artist. That and this song, “Inner Ambient” is good and reminds me of M83. (via No Modest Bear)
